WWW Wednesday – March 30, 2022

Happy Wednesday! If you’re unfamiliar with WWW Wednesday, it’s a weekly blog meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The three W’s are simple:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Current Reads

I’m currently reading Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo. I honestly don’t love this series, it’s fine. But I’m determined to finish off this last book so I can read Six of Crows which I hear is a lot better. I hope that’s the case and it’s actually worth powering through because I’m feeling really unmotivated to read this one.

I am technically still working on my reread of Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins but I haven’t read any of it in March, instead picking up my books for the Trope-ical Readathon.

Recently Finished

I feel like I’ve been reading less but apparently not, I finished 3 books in the last week. Strangely, all of these were continuations of series.

First, I finished Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse. Hate the cover but loved the second book in this series. It totally lived up to the first book and the ending has me already anxiously awaiting the next one. I love this world and these characters, 5 stars. You can read my full review here.

Then I continued my uneven read of the Wayward Children series with Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire. I gave this one 3 stars, it was better than a lot of the others. This one seemed like a complete story but I just didn’t connect with the characters so overall, it was pretty middle of the road. I have two more unread published books in this series and I’m sure I’ll pick them up but they’re pretty hit and miss.

Lastly, I read Shadowblack by Sebastien de Castell which is the second book in the Spellsplinger series. I had so much fun with this one. The plot wasn’t my favorite but the characters and humor more than made up for it. As I said in my Goodreads review, every book should have a squirrel cat. I love Reichis so much and will definitely keep reading this series, it’s so much fun. I gave this one (and the first book) 4 stars.

Up Next

I’m hoping to finish Ruin and Rising today or tomorrow to get it in for the Trope-ical Readathon but it’s going to be tight. In April, I’ll be participating in the Realm of the Readathon (aka Realmathon) which is a new team-based competitive readathon over on Booktube that promises to be a great time. You can still register if you’re interested. Best place for info is the announcement video.

I’m on the whimsical fantasy team, Serane which means I get extra points for reading whimsical fantasy. I plan to start with finally diving into Misrule and then I’m thinking The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea but anything could happen, the prompts are really open-ended and you can double-up so it’s a great one to mood read during.
