Reading Wrap Up – September 2021

Coming off my best reading month in August, September was a mess and my worst reading month of the year by far. It was a really bizarre month with almost all ARCs and a strange assortment of ratings. My slump seems to be over and I’m back from vacation so hopefully October is better but here’s the wrap up of my very strange September.

The Books

Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim

3 stars – Full Review

I listened to the audio book of this one. It was ok but too many things just didn’t line up for me and I won’t be continuing this series.

Where the Stars Sing by Aminah Fox

1 star – Full Review

Sadly, this ARC was just bad in every way.

Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao

5 stars – Full Review

I went from a 1 star ARC to a 5 star ARC. This feminist dystopian was awesome. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait for the next one.

Love, Chai and Other Four-Letter Words by Annika Sharma

2 stars – Full Review

This was yet another ARC from NetGalley. I was looking for a sweet contemporary romance but this just wasn’t it for me. Instead it made me horribly angry and I don’t think that was the intention. I’m still confused on what the author was trying to accomplish and overall frustrated by this one.

Sistersong by Lucy Holland

4 stars – Full Review

My last ARC and book of the month, this historical YA fantasy was so interesting and had some really interesting ideas. It was a little slow and got a little weird in places but most of it was so beautiful and interesting, it had me hooked.

What’s Up Next

I’m not doing any readathons in October and only have one ARC left with an October publication date. I’m hoping to tackle at a minimum 6 books to meet my 2021 goal of 100 books! Here’s what’s at the top of my list:
