Top Ten Tuesday – Things That Instantly Make Me Want to Read a Book

Happy Tuesday! It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, the weekly feature run by That Artsy Reader Girl where you choose ten books to fit a weekly prompt. This week’s prompt is things that make me instantly want to read a book. This was an interesting topic and got me thinking about things I really like in books. I couldn’t come up with 10 but then again if I had 10, my TBR would be even longer.

First, auto-buy (because auto-get from library is a mouthful) authors. I don’t have a lot of these but there are a couple authors I’ll always want to read regardless of the synopsis: TJ Klune, Andy Weir, and Taylor Jenkins Reid are my 100% will read no matter what authors.

Multi-Verse Trope. I adore the multi-verse trope and can’t get enough of it. I wish this trope was in more books and read every one I find.

Dragon Riding. I love dragons in general but especially dragon riding. I’ve been enjoying Temeraire and I adored the Aurelian Cycle. I need more dragon riding in my life.

Comparison to a Favorite Book. There are a couple books that I will read anything that is compared to them. In particular, The Martian and The House in the Cerulean Sea. I love them so much I’d read anything compared to them.

Animal Companions. Maybe not just any book with an animal companion but if a book sounds even somewhat interesting and then I hear there’s an animal companion, that tips me over the edge every time.

Interesting Magic Systems. This is one that usually comes from blog or booktube reviews but when I hear an interesting magic system, I get intrigued regardless of the plot. I love a good magic system, it can carry the whole book.

YA Fantasy liked by Booktube. OK, I really enjoy YA fantasy but it needs to be really good and there’s just too much to sort through myself. So I wait for Booktube to fall in love with a TA series and then jump on it. When it’s good, it’s so so good but oh boy, some of it is terrible so thanks to all of the reviewers who sort it out for me.
