WWW Wednesday – April 5, 2023

Happy Wednesday! If you’re unfamiliar with WWW Wednesday, it’s a weekly blog meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The three W’s are simple:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Current Reads

I’m currently about 60% through Aurora’s End by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I have really enjoyed this trilogy so far but haven’t heard the best things about this conclusion so I went in with pretty low expectations. It definitely isn’t the best in the series but I am enjoying it. I really think the authors made a mistake after the first book when they split up the characters, the dynamics between them are what made the first one so special. I still really like a couple of the POVs in this but there is one storyline in particular that I don’t care about at all. So we’ll see where I end up but overall, enjoying it so far.

Recently Finished

I read two books in the last week. Fist, I read the sci-fi mystery novella The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Older. Like many novellas, I thought this lacked world building and character development. I pretty much forgot it all at this point, I gave it 2 stars. My full review is here.

The I kicked off April with Dark Matter by Blake Crouch and I loved it! I gave it 5 stars and I’m still thinking about it. I’ve read Recursion and Upgrade by Crouch and I liked those but this is definitely my favorite. I can’t believe it took my so long to pick this up.

Up Next

I’m not totally sure what’s next, I’ve been changing my mind repeatedly. Malice by John Gwynne has been calling to me lately. I’m also thinking I may want a sci-fi/fantasy break and might pick up The Magic of Found Objects by Maddie Dawson. I also want to read Caliban’s War by James SA Corey so I can read the next two novellas in the expanse series during Realmathon’s Peace Talks weekend. So it will probably be one of these or maybe multiple of these in the next week. I’m obviously undecided, these are so very different even the covers look wonky next to each other.
