Happy Tuesday! It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, the weekly feature run by That Artsy Reader Girl where you choose ten books to fit a weekly prompt. This week is a freebie. I looked through prompts from before I started this post and the one that jumped out to me was characters I’d name a pet after. Here are the ten I came up with. Finding a character I love with a name fit for a pet (which mainly means dog in my head) was harder than I thought!

- Rocky from Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir – if you know, you know. I love Rocky and it’s a cute dog name.
- Theodore from The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune – I love Theodore and I could call the pup Teddy.
- Lazlo from Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor – I’m dog person and Lazlo sounds like a cat to me but I still like it an Strange would be an awesome middle name.
- Quint from Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer – Quint is so loyal and a great side character, plus I like it as a pup name.
- Amari from Amari and the Night Brothers by BB Alston – Amari is awesome and for the right little girl, it’d be a great dog name.
- Fitz from Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb – Such a cute dog name and an awesome character. Plus I could be like the Fool and call him “Fitzy Fitz”.
- Temeraire from His Majesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik – One of my favorite animal characters ever and I adore him. I’d need to come up with a nickname.
- Reichis from Shadowblack by Sebastien deCastell – Another of my favorite animal characters and a cool and different pet name.
- Mosscap from A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers – Maybe for a turtle or something, but probably not a dog. Mosscap is such a fun and interesting character.
- Luna from Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik – OK, Luna is too popular of a dog name and related to other books but if that wasn’t the case, I love the animal companion in this one. She reminded my so much of my late Westie girl.
Oh I love this topic choice so much! Rocky is the perfect name for a dog! Mosscap could be an especially sleepy cat, too!

Teddy would be a cute name for a puppy. I would probably do Lucy from that book for a puppy myself. Although, that could be giving the puppy some ideas on how to act. lol

Lucifer will always be a cat in my head from Cinderella. But Lucy is my favorite.

What a fun topic! I’m not a pet person, but I do appreciate cute/clever and especially literary pet names 🙂
Happy TTT!
