Happy Wednesday! If you’re unfamiliar with WWW Wednesday, it’s a weekly blog meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The three W’s are simple:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Current Reads

I started Defend the Dawn by Brigid Kemmerer last night. The first book in this series is so far my favorite book of 2022 and I’m cautiously optimistic. Kemmerer totally bombed on the second book of the A Heart so Dark and Lonely trilogy but so far, this one is good. I’m enjoying getting back with these characters and it’s giving me those sparks that remind me why I loved the first one. I’m less than 100 pages in but hoping I keep enjoying it.
Recently Finished

I finished two books this week. First, I read Saga Vol 8 by Brian K Vaughn and Fiona Staples. I enjoyed the first half of this one and then the end started going every which way and pulling back in random side characters which I didn’t care for. So I ended up at 3 stars, this series keeps going between 3 and 4 stars for me but I enjoy it and they’re quick reads.
Then I finally finished Black Powder War by Naomi Novik which is the third book in the Temeraire series. This book has a slow start and I was really slogging along, not only because of my vision issues. But then I hit about the two thirds mark and started getting really into it and flew through the last hundred pages or so. I was caught between 3 and 4 stars but it scrapped out 4 on CAWPILE. I’ll definitely continue the series, I love this dragon but it could be a little while before I’m ready for another one.
Up Next
I’m not sure what I plan to read next. I really want to make my Goodreads goal but I’ll need to read 14 books including my current read. My reading mood is all over the place. So I went to my TBR on Goodreads and found the shortest/quickest books and requested them from my library. This should give me plenty of options to pick from depending on my mood at the time while keeping the books a manageable length. Here’s what is currently waiting for me at the library or is already checked out that I think might make up a good chunk of my reading for the rest of the year. There’s a little bit of everything and they should all be fairly fast reads so hopefully I can keep some momentum and always find something that peaks my interest while keeping me away from the big epic fantasies that currently have me intrigued but I know could easily get me back in a reading slump.

Saga is one of my favorites!!! I hope you have a great week!
