Weekly Posts, WWW Wednesday

WWW Wednesday – November 9, 2022

Happy Wednesday!  If you saw my October wrap-up post, you’ll know that I read basically nothing in October due to some issues with my vision. But I’m back and ready for WWW Wednesday! If you’re unfamiliar with WWW Wednesday, it’s a weekly blog meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The three W’s are simple:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Current Reads

I started reading A Turn of the Tide by Kelley Armstrong as my vision problems were going away thinking I would love it and it would get me excited to read and over my anxiety about reading again. But despite loving the first two books in this series, this one has been falling flat for me. I haven’t picked it up for a few days but I do plan to continue and I’m leaving on my current reads for now.

When I wasn’t loving that one, I turned to Black Powder War by Naomi Novik which I had actually started in mid-September and then got sidetracked by something else. This is the third book in the Temeraire series and I’m enjoying my time back with this loveable dragon. It’s a bit of a slow read but I’m enjoying it and I’m still not feeling like reading for more than about 30 minutes before taking a break and this has worked nicely for that.

Recently Finished

Last weekend, I really just wanted to finish a book. I had an ARC of Tread of Angels by Rebecca Roanhorse which will be published November 15th and since it’s a novella, it fit the bill perfectly. Unfortunately, I’m much more excited about finishing a book than the book itself. I gave it 3 stars and it proved to me that I can read >100 pages in a day again without my vision going wonky so it did its job but the story was not my cup of tea. I posted a full review here.

Up Next

I’m in the mood for fantasy and really want something to hook me. I know just the book to do it and I’m so excited. I plan to dive into Defend the Dawn by Brigid Kemmerer this weekend. This is the sequel to my favorite book of the year so far. I’m a little afraid as the last sequel I read from Kemmerer was a big let down but I really do love this world and I’m looking forward to seeing the characters again.
