Happy Wednesday! If you’re unfamiliar with WWW Wednesday, it’s a weekly blog meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The three W’s are simple:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Current Reads

I’m currently reading Amari and the Great Game by BB Alston. The first book in this series was one of my favorite reads of 2021. I just started the second book yesterday but I think I’ll finish it today and so far, this one is also really good.
Recently Finished

After a slow couple of weeks, my reading has really picked up. I’m at the beach this week and spending my days reading oceanside.
First, I finished The Time Trials by Jon McConnell and Dayna McConnell. This was a NetGalley ARC but actually came out last year and was re-released on NetGalley ahead of the release of the sequel. I really enjoyed this one. It was a mix of The Hunger Games and The Firebird Trilogy, two of my favorites, with a dash of YA boarding school. The execution was a little rough around the edges but there was a great story there and I want to read the next one. I gave this 4 stars and you can read my full review here.
Then I read an ARC of Something Bright and Burning by Whitney Amazeen. This is a YA contemporary about an 18 year old girl who finds out she is pregnant. I honestly don’t remember requesting this on NetGalley and was surprised reading the blurb again that I did. But I went in with an open mind and it just wasn’t for me. It was overly dramatic with a twist that just went too far. Add on to that characters who were not fleshed out enough for me to get invested and you get a book I just didn’t care about. I gave this one 2 stars, you can read my full review here.
Then yesterday I finished Charmcaster by Sebastien de Castell which is the 3rd book in the Spellslinger series. This series is a really good time. This one may be my favorite so far, the plot was a lot more interesting than book 2 but the characters were just as much fun. I stuck with 4 stars which was also my rating on the first two books but I could definitely see one of the remaining books pulling out a 5 star.
Up Next
I have a big bag of books with me at the beach plus my kindle. I am thinking I’ll be reading Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid next. I brought this and two others in my travel group wanted to read it. I gave them first dibs and one is done and the other is over halfway so it will be next if she’s done or I’ll stick something in between but it’s definitely one of the next books. I’m really excited and they’re both saying it’s great.
