WWW Wednesday – August 10, 2022

Happy Wednesday!  If you’re unfamiliar with WWW Wednesday, it’s a weekly blog meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The three W’s are simple:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Current Reads

I started Traitor’s Blade by Sebastien de Castell over the weekend. I’m about 100 pages in and it’s a lot of fun so far.

Yesterday, I had to go into DC which required a 4AM wakeup and 2 hours on a train. I wanted something easy and decided to get moving on The Martian by Andy Weir. This is my first reread of my favorite book of 2021 and the more I read, the more convinced I am that this is my favorite book of all time and completely perfect. I love it entirely and even though I only read about 60 pages on the train, I read a bunch more last night and doubt I’ll pick anything else up until I’m done. I’ve laughed out loud, I’ve teared up, I’ve enjoyed every word, it’s amazing.

My reread of Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins is on hold during the Trope-ical Readathon.

Recently Finished

I finished 3 books this week and have managed to keep the ~178 pages per day pace (on average) to be on track for finishing my Trope-ical Readathon TBR. I’m totally shocked, we’ll see how long it takes for this to fall apart.

First I read Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel. I understand why a lot of people are raving about this one but it just wasn’t for me. I couldn’t overlook that the main character’s “magic” was basically manipulating the emotions of those close to her. It was constant and never denounced as bad, I couldn’t stomach it. I gave it 2 stars and had other issues too, I wrote a full review here.

Then I read Finlay Donovan is Killing It by Elle Cosimano. This was fun. I didn’t love it as much as others seem to. The first 100 pages of the book were the plot I was expecting and really fun. Then it got more into a mystery and just more slow moving and less fun. I still enjoyed it and gave it 4 stars, I’ll probably read the next one.

Lastly, I read Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff over the weekend. I loved this and flew through it. It was such a fun read and I absolutely loved the characters. 5 stars and I already have a hold pending on the next one at the library.

Up Next

Leaving my full Trope-ical readathon TBR here as I have no idea what I’m picking up next. The ones in pink I already finished. Rivals will be fairly soon as there is a hold on it at the library so I will not be able to renew it but I have a little time so maybe not next if I’m in a fantasy mood.
