WWW Wednesday – June 8, 2022

Happy Wednesday! If you’re unfamiliar with WWW Wednesday, it’s a weekly blog meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The three W’s are simple:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Current Reads

I started By the Book by Jasmine Guillory last night but didn’t read very much. This was the book picked by a poll of the Whateverathon Discord for me to read next. I liked the first book in this series and have enjoyed other books by Jasmine Guillory so I’m hoping this is a fun read.

I haven’t made any progress in my reread of Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins but I’m starting to want to pick it up. Might change from a slow reread to an afternoon binge fairly soon.

Recently Finished

I finished three books! Seeing as I only read two books in all of May, I think I can say I’m back to my normal reading.

My first book of the month was Happily Ever Island by Crystal Cestari. This was an ARC from NetGalley bit it was published yesterday. I had a lot of fun with this book. I don’t think it’s for everyone but if you have a love of Disney, you might want to check it out. I gave it 4 stars because I do in fact love Disney or at least the parks. I did a full review which you can check out here.

Then I finally picked up Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer and I’m kicking myself that I didn’t do it sooner. I absolutely loved this and gave it 5 stars. It is a very unique and enjoyable YA fantasy that has me anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. I wrote a review of this one too which you can find here.

Lastly, I decided to pick up the next volume of Saga by Brian K Vaughn and Fiona Staples last night. I’ve rated all of the books in this series 3 or 4 stars so far and my rating seem to closely follow how much of the plot focuses on the main family. This one had a lot of side stories so seemed a little haphazard to me and therefore I went with 3 stars. I’m definitely enjoying this series and will continue soon. I apparently am more fond of the characters than I thought, I definitely teared up in this one which is very surprising given the content and my usual dislike of graphic novels but there it is.

Up Next

I’m not totally sure what I going to read next but after my current book, I have 3 more books to read to finish out my Whateverathon bingo board so it will definitely be one of these 3. They’re definitely different from each other so we’ll see what I’m in the mood for. I’m off to a work conference next week and have no idea if I’ll read a lot or nothing with being in a hotel room and on a plane but also being around a bunch of clients so anything could happen.

  1. I love Kemmerer but I just couldn’t do the plague / pandemic. I have to pop over and check out your review.

Yahoo for regular reading! Such joy to get back in the groove!
