Happy Tuesday! It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, the weekly feature run by That Artsy Reader Girl where you choose ten books to fit a weekly prompt. I’m back after a long hiatus from doing this weekly post. I was on a roll reading and didn’t blog much and then went into a slump and didn’t blog much. But I’m back to reading and blogging and wanted to start this up again.
This week’s prompt is a freebie around book quotes. I’m not a huge lover of book quotes, I don’t remember them, tab books, annotate books, etc. But I do enjoy these prompts and going to Goodreads to remember some of the gems in my favorite books. I thought about choosing 10 quotes from ten different books but I couldn’t decide on 10 books or one quote from each. So I’m going with five quotes each from The House in the Cerulean Sea and The Martian, two of my all time favorites.

The Martian by Andy Weir was my favorite book of 2021 and quite possibly my favorite book of all time. I laughed out loud just reading these quotes and now want to reread it. This is sci-fi at its best and really in a league of it’s own.
I guess you could call it a “failure”, but I prefer the term “learning experience”.
Problem is (follow me closely here, the science is pretty complicated), if I cut a hole in the Hab, the air won’t stay inside anymore.
Yes, of course duct tape works in a near-vacuum. Duct tape works anywhere. Duct tape is magic and should be worshiped.
“He’s stuck out there. He thinks he’s totally alone and that we all gave up on him. What kind of effect does that have on a man’s psychology?” He turned back to Venkat. “I wonder what he’s thinking right now.”
LOG ENTRY: SOL 61 How come Aquaman can control whales? They’re mammals! Makes no sense.
I tested the brackets by hitting them with rocks. This kind of sophistication is what we interplanetary scientists are known for.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune is another all time favorite. I’ve already read it twice and it’s a comforting read I’m sure I’ll revisit many times.
Hate is loud, but I think you’ll learn it’s because it’s only a few people shouting, desperate to be heard. You might not ever be able to change their minds, but so long as your remember you’re not alone, you will overcome.
Just because you don’t experience prejudice in your everyday doesn’t stop it from existing for the rest of us.
When something is broken, you can put it back together. It may not fit quite the same, or work like it did once before, but that doesn’t mean it’s no longer useful.
He couldn’t believe it was only Wednesday. And it was made worse when he realized it was actually Tuesday.
The world is a weird and wonderful place. Why must we try and explain it all away? For our personal satisfaction?
There are so many quotable moments in The Martian!

My husband and son LOVED The Martian (minus all the cursing) and how incredible it was. These are great quotes.

My husband also loved THE MARTIAN. I couldn’t get into it (all the detail just made me yawn), so I DNFd it pretty fast. I did love the movie, though! These quotes from the book are great. Glad you enjoyed it so much.
Happy TTT!

Love this list. My husband is a fan of the book. I’ve not read it, but of course, when the two of us are reading any book, the other hears all the best quotes said in the context of the scene first-hand. Love it!
