Weekly Posts, WWW Wednesday

WWW Wednesday – April 20, 2022

Happy Wednesday! If you’re unfamiliar with WWW Wednesday, it’s a weekly blog meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The three W’s are simple:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Current Reads

My main current read is Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik. This is the second book in the Temeraire series and I am still loving this world. I jumped right into this one since it fits Eurovisionathon perfectly which started on the 15th.

I am also listening to the audiobook of Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Supetys. This is totally not my normal read but that was the whole reason I signed up for Eurovisionathon. I’m enjoying it so far but definitely not what I normally gravitate to. This will fulfill Lithuania for that readathon. Hoping to make some good progress on a couple of trips for work this week.

I’m still technically reading Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire but it doesn’t work for Eurovisionathon so we’ll see if I make any progress.

I am technically still working on my reread of Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins but I haven’t read any of it recently, instead picking up my books for readathons. I’ll come back to it when I’m starting to get slumpy again, that’s what comfort rereads are for.

Recently Finished

Not off to the best start of Eurovisionathon and a bad week for Realmathon but I did finish one book.

I finished Wundersmith by Jessica Townsend. I counted this as whimsical fantasy for Realmathon and Australia for Eurovisionathon so good points all around. I liked this better than the first one actually. I still don’t love this series, there’s just something lacking. Maybe it’s just because I’m definitely not a middle grade reader but one of my favorite reads of 2021 was middle grade so I think it’s the book. The world isn’t totally fleshed out and some of the characters are a little one dimensional which I accepted for middle grade. However, I couldn’t also excuse a ridiculously predictable plot. I needed something to be perfect and everything was just slightly lacking. I gave it 4 stars and will continue but not a favorite.

Up Next

Keeping the same three on my radar. These work for both of my current readathons so probably looking at one of these next but I said that last week and then picked up something else, so….grain of salt.
