Happy Tuesday! It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, the weekly feature run by That Artsy Reader Girl where you choose ten books to fit a weekly prompt. This week’s prompt is new-to-me authors that I discovered in 2021. I read a lot of debuts in 2021 but for this prompt, I kept it to established authors that I read for the first time in 2021 and plan to pick up more by the author.

Andy Weir
This was an easy one. The Martian was my favorite book of 2021 and Project Hail Mary was also top 10. The combination of science, humor and plot in Weir’s books is so good. I read Artemis earlier in January and now I’m out of books so he needs to get writing.

Elizabeth Acevedo
I loved The Poet X and went on to really enjoy Clap When You Land. Acevedo’s writing is so powerful, it made me pick up other novels in verse.

Alice Oseman
I read the first three Heartstopper books in 2021. I plan to pick up the others as soon as I can get them and also want to give Oseman’s novels a try.

Seanan McGuire
I may have mixed feeling on the Wayward Children series but the writing is incredibly good and I’d like to give Middlegame a try.

Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
I loved all three books of The Illuminae Files, they were so unique. I have Aurora Rising by this duo as well as books from each of them individually on my TBR.

Jennifer Dugan
I read Hot Dog Girl and it was fun. I plan to take a look at Dugan’s other work for some some queer YA reads.

Becky Chambers
A Psalm for the Wild Built was a great novella. I’m interested in not only continuing with this series as it is published but reading Chamber’s prior work as well.

Sebastien de Castell
This was such a fun fantasy. The writing so very accessible. I’ll be continuing this series but also plan to pick up the Greatcoats series.

Katharine McGee
I read the first two books in the American Royals series and they were a great time and a unique idea. I look forward to the next book in the series and also plan to pick up more from this author.

Julie Murphy
If the Shoe Fits was a great contemporary romance with a Cinderella twist. I’m looking forward to the rest of this series which will actually be by other authors but I also plan on picking up more by Murphy.
That’s it. If you have any suggestions of other books by these authors, I’d love to hear them.
You listed some wonderful authors. I was fortunate to hear Katharine McGee speak just before the start of the pandemic, and I like Becky Chambers, too.

It’s wonderful you enjoyed Andy Weir’s work so much. He’s one of my favourite modern sci-fi authors. Will you be watching the film version of Project Hail Mary once it’s released?

I haven’t even seen The Martian movie. I don’t watch a lot of movies, not sure if I’m willing to risk the vision in my head.
