Top Ten Tuesday – 2021 Releases I was Excited about but Haven’t Read

Happy Tuesday! It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, the weekly feature run by That Artsy Reader Girl where you choose ten books to fit a weekly prompt. This week’s prompt is 2021 releases that I was excited to read but haven’t read yet. I can never read all of the books coming out that sound goo, just like I’ll never read every book on my TBR. But here are the top 10 2021 releases that I haven’t read yet and still intend to read.

Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer

I liked (but didn’t love) the A Curse So Dark and Lonely trilogy and I was excited to jump into the latest fantasy by this author. This was the next book on my shelf so many times but I just keep bumping it. I will definitely read it eventually, we’ll see when I finally pick it up.

The Magic of Found Objects by Maddie Dawson

I got this one as an Amazon First Reads and was really excited about since I loved Matchmaking for Beginners. I just keep forgetting it’s on my Kindle. I’ll probably get to it at some point when I’m traveling and want an eBook.

The Ones We’re Meant to Find by Joan He

The cover of this book caught my eye immediately and the premise sounds interesting. I’ve heard some rave reviews but also some that aren’t great. A few people saying this is confusing and like historical fiction which has me keeping it on the back burner but I’m still intrigued to eventually pick it up.

She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan

This is another one that a couple comments on it being more historical than fantasy have me putting it off but I definitely want to give it a try at some point. There are so many good reviews and the premise does sound quite good.

Heartstopper Volume 4 by Alice Oseman

This is a case of me really wanting to read it but just not being able to get access. I have really enjoyed this series and want to read the next one but need to wait for my library hold to finally come in. It won’t sit around for long once I finally get it.

Daughters of Sparta by Claire Heywood

Greek mythology is not always my thing but this one has an awesome premise and I have heard wonderful things. No real reason I haven’t gotten to this, it just didn’t happen.

The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, it was a great time. I was excited for the next one and then kind of forgot about it. But sometime when I’m looking for a mystery, twisty tale, I’ll reach for this.

The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna

I’ve heard such mixed things on this one that I keep going back and forth. I get really excited for it and then lose my interest. I’m sure I’ll get to it one day, the blurb does sound great.

The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson

The Truly Devious series is really fun and I want to get to this fourth book. I just haven’t been in the right mood to pick it up yet.

Black Water Sister by Zen Cho

I love this cover and the blurb sounds wonderful. Definitely on my radar but again, just too many books and I didn’t get to it yet.

If you read and loved any of these, let me know! Maybe it will give me the kick to pick them up.

  1. I hope you manage to get a copy of Heartstopper 4. I think she still has it all up on her tumblr but it’s a bit hard to tell where one book ends and the other begins. I always just wait for the paper version. Black Water Sister was one of my fave books of last year and I enjoyed The Gilded Ones and The Box in the Woods too.

  2. I really liked The Gilded Ones and Back Water Sister and hope you will too if you read them! Having just read Circe, Daughters of Sparta caught my eye on your list. I’ll have to check that one out.

    1. Oh, Circe was great! Daughters of Sparta isn’t getting much recognition but I’ve seen multiple 5 star reviews from totally different friends, I definitely need to give it a go at some point.
