WWW Wednesday – January 5, 2022

Happy Wednesday! If you’re unfamiliar with WWW Wednesday, it’s a weekly blog meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words. The three W’s are simple:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

Current Reads

I finally picked up Artemis by Andy Weir. I’m enjoying it. It has the same humor from Weir that I love. The story isn’t quite catching me but I’m still enjoying my time. I’m not quite halfway so we’ll see how it ends up.

I’m still doing my reread of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins but haven’t read much lately. I almost picked it up a few days ago and then we too tired. Thinking I’ll finally get back to it now that I’m back to my normal work schedule.

Recently Finished

I somehow managed to finish 3 books in the last week!

First, I finished A Stitch in Time by Kelley Armstrong and wow, this was great. It’s a historical romance with time travel and a mystery with ghosts. That’s a lot but it’s done really well. I loved these characters and it had some spooky vibes with ghosts and being on the moors in English and it was just perfect. It sucked me and I’m still thinking about it. I gave it 5 stars.

Then my last book of 2021 was In an Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire. This is part of the Wayward Children series which since the first book, Every Heart a Doorway, I haven’t been loving. This was definitely my favorite since that first book but I still didn’t love it and gave it 3 stars. My issue seems to be the series itself because they are written beautifully and the worlds they create are just amazing. But in this one, the little girl visits the Goblin Market and you see her meet people and be told the rules, etc. Then it fast forwards and she comes out of the door crying about a wasp queen. What?!?! I want to see that nonsense! It’s been a frustrating read for me just not having the books focus on what I want them to be about. I’ll keep my slow reading going, they’re novellas and are really written beautifully.

Lastly, I read my ARC of When You Get the Chance by Emma Lord. This was ok. I wasn’t blown away but I thought parts were cute. Lord definitely knows how to write and made some really good characters. I expect a YA contemporary to be a little predictable but this was a lot preductable and the cuteness didn’t measure up enough to make me not care about that. So I ended up giving it 3 stars. You can see my full review here.

Up Next

Next up, I plan to read my ARC of The Beholden by Cassandra Rose Clarke. This one is set to be published on January 18th. I totally forget what it’s about but I kind of like that so I don’t plan to reread the synopsis. The cover is pretty and I apparently liked the blurb enough to request it so I’m hoping it’s great.
