Top Ten Tuesday – Characters I’d Love an Update On

Happy Tuesday! It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, the weekly feature run by That Artsy Reader Girl where you choose ten books to fit a weekly prompt. This week’s prompt is bookish memories. Well, I only came up with two and even that was a stretch. BUT, I didn’t do last week’s prompt because I was on vacation. That prompt was characters I’d love an update on and for that one, I easily came up with ten books and could have kept going. Any book I love, I want to know what happens next. Here are the top ten.

Minor spoilers for a couple of these, maybe don’t read the explanation if you plan to read any of these.

The Martian by Andy Weir

I know I use this book for everything but it fits this prompt perfectly. I want (bordering on need) to know what happened when Mark got back to Earth. He’d be a world-wide celebrity and likely have some health issues. What happened??? I’d love to find out.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

This series has an epilogue but I need more. Like most people who actually read the books, I love Peeta and Katniss and the epilogue was a little sappy but made perfect sense. I want more!! I want to see what happened with Haymitch (I picture him as the fun uncle) and a deeper dive on Katniss and Peeta. I did read the prequel and loved the first 2 thirds, the end was terrible. But I need an update on their future and/or a prequel on Haymitch, he’s such a fascinating character.

A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray

Here’s another one that had a little epilogue but it wasn’t enough. I love this series and all of the versions of Marguerite and Paul. I want an update on all of them. I want a farther out update on the main ones. I just want more from this series, I love it entirely.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This may seem like a weird choice but I’d like to see the aftermath of this story with Monique. The end takes such a beautifully wonderful turn and then it ends spectacularly. But what happened after that??? I’d love to see how it played out on Monique’s side.

Matchmaking for Beginners by Maddie Dawson

So I got a follow-up book for this one in 2020 but it wasn’t the happy update I wanted. I love these characters and will continue going back to this book. Maybe it’s an update after the second book or maybe it’s a rewrite but I need to see these two happy together, they’re just so perfect in every way.

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

I include this book in every list but it needs to be here despite having an epilogue, I want more! I want more of these characters, this world, this writing. I want to meet these beautiful and quirky people again and see them take in new kids. I’d love another adventure with them or a deeper dive into their future.

Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender

I loved this story and I loved the ending. I love a happy ending and an empowering romance but I would love to know how it played out. Did they end up together or how did that go? I want to see Felix thrive and live as an adult as he wants to be.

A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin

In theory, this is an update I’ll eventually get but its been SOOO long that I decided it belonged on this list. I read all of the books and then watched the TV show but only up to where the books ended. I need Martin to finally get writing and tell his ending to this story. It’s epic and glorious and deserves an ending by the original creator, I’m not watching whatever the TV show came up with.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

I got the prequel (and loved it) earlier this year but a sequel is needed. I’d love to see Star as an adult or even a college kid. This book is so powerful and these events must have changed her forever. I want to see that change and find out who she became.

The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg

This was my first book of 2021 and it was Disney and sci-fi, practically written for me. But there were so many loose ends. I think it was intended to be a series and the rest was never written. I want the next book, it left too many stones unturned and I loved where it was going.

That’s it, I hope you enjoyed!
